The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
On value alone, Hadden makes the weekend a net positive. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. The Solomon pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at tight end, running back and other spots.
Every board in the league had Solomon lower, and that gap is the story.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 2 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A real need, handled.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Brian Thomas Jr. at Round 2, Pick 4. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 40 with a little surplus value in Jordan Morgan. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A quiet steal in the 67th pick: Junior Colson for less than the market said. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They let Kingsley Suamataia come to them and pounced at slot 78. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose OLB-EDGE. Javon Solomon in the 100th overall pick leaves tight end, running back and other spots for later.
A tidy little value on Mohamed Kamara in the Round 5 slot, a step better than break-even. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Nothing to complain about; Mason McCormick went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board fumbled Kamal Hadden all the way to pick No. 222, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
