They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: R.J. Oben, 131 picks early at the 214th pick.
That Mondon Jr. pick is the receipt they will wave around later. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 31st overall pick they get a matchup weapon at tight end, though they paid up to get him. A clean fit for the roster.
Jalon Walker in pick 63 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They robbed the room for Smael Mondon Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Circle this one: Kalel Mullings at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Brant Kuithe at No. 164 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Tonka Hemingway in slot 166 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached into another round for R.J. Oben, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A big swing on Sean Martin at the 215th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They reached a country mile for Cooper Mays at Round 7, Pick 11, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
Marques Cox in pick No. 256 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
