The Chiefs ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
The Sainristil value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. Brandon Graham gives the group a proven body among the projects.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They paid sticker price for Kingsley Suamataia in slot 57, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Tyleik Williams in pick No. 89 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Kiran Amegadjie at the 97th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No drama and no debate, J. Michael Sturdivant went about where he belonged in pick 125. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Mike Sainristil slipping to No. 167 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Lathan Ransom at the 171st overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A minor need, but a need all the same.
No edge and no loss on T.J. Sanders in Round 5, Pick 39; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They read the board right and Tahj Brooks was the payoff at the 203rd pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
