If confidence were a draft strategy, the Cowboys would have aced it. Dominic Lovett at pick 190 is 140 spots clear of where he belonged.
However the rest shakes out, Mullings at that price is a win they earned. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 15 they get a disruptive interior force, outstanding value to boot.
Somehow Omarion Hampton was still sitting there in the 46th pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. It fills a real need, too.
Jihaad Campbell in the Round 3 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Taking Jake Majors in slot 152 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A linebacker of that caliber at No. 168 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Amari Kight well ahead of where he belonged. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Michael Taaffe in the 171st pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A real head-scratcher, Dominic Lovett in slot 190 is miles ahead of his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Kalel Mullings at the Round 6 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Circle this one: Logan Parr at pick 248 is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
