Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Evan Anderson at pick 244 is 38 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
The Johnson steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a disruptor off the edge, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
No drama and no debate, Kingsley Suamataia went about where he belonged in No. 56. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Circle this one: Patrick Paul at the Round 3 slot is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They went early on Daijun Edwards in pick No. 174, and the value did not follow. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Taking Cornelius Johnson in the 216th pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They took Andrew Raym at par in the 233rd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Evan Anderson at Round 7, Pick 24 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
