The rest of the league had time to spare on Nohl Williams; the Commanders did not wait, grabbing him 41 spots ahead at pick 238. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. That Marks pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Nic Scourton in pick No. 29, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jayden Higgins a notch or two before his time. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Hollin Pierce in slot 79 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cody Simon at Round 5, Pick 9. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Woody Marks at the 207th pick is the proof. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nohl Williams at the 238th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
LaJohntay Wester is a better player than pick No. 250 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
