The Commanders did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Nicholas Singleton fell into the 198th overall pick.
The Oliver pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 22nd pick they get a lockdown presence outside, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
You do not let a linebacker like Jalon Walker reach pick 59 and blink. They did not. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They liked Tai Felton enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 3 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They barely believed it either: Nicholas Singleton still on the board at Round 6, Pick 23. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Collin Oliver at pick No. 202 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board fumbled Seth McLaughlin all the way to No. 236, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jimmy Horn Jr. in slot 244 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Taking Terrance Ferguson in the 252nd overall pick is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
