The Chargers bet big and early on Gabe Hall, 24 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Edwards steal is the beam this whole class leans on. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with interior defensive lineman the one that mattered most.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Brock Bowers at par in the 5th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They liked Jackson Powers-Johnson enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 37. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Javon Bullard in No. 69 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They talked themselves into Tommy Eichenberg at Round 4, Pick 5, and the board did not agree. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Daijun Edwards is a better player than pick No. 142 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Gabe Hall in the Round 6 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jaden Crumedy in the 226th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
