They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Tahj Washington, 143 picks early at Round 6, Pick 44. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Wilson.
Adding Matthew Bergeron by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a ballhawk on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A premium they did not need to pay, Edgerrin Cooper a notch or two before his time. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Good price on Graham Barton in pick 57, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The roster fit checks out.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ray Davis well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A quiet steal in the 91st pick: Roman Wilson for less than the market said. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Darius Robinson at Round 4, Pick 9 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid a round early for Cam Hart in pick No. 125, more than the board wanted. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid sticker price for Malik Mustapha in the 135th overall pick, and that is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Christian Jones at the 203rd pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Kenny Logan Jr. at slot 217 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Tahj Washington at No. 219 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
Jaden Shirden in the Round 7 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
