The one they had to fix is still broken. The Patriots left edge rusher untouched, and that omission hangs over an otherwise reasonable haul.
The Speights pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They are betting Washington proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ladd McConkey. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Payton Wilson in slot 68 is fair value, right on his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Malik Washington at the 103rd pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Dylan Laube at pick No. 139 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A premium they did not need to pay, AJ Barner a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A slide stopped in Round 7, Pick 4, with Omar Speights worth more than the price. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
No edge and no loss on Trevor Keegan in No. 232; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
