Nobody had Zion Logue this high, and it is not close. The Cowboys reached 73 spots to get him at the 177th overall pick. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
Getting Hart where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The veteran additions, Josh Reynolds chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Payton Wilson in slot 62 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Good price on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick No. 64, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They reached into another round for Cedric Johnson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Circle this one: Blake Fisher at the 126th pick is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had Kris Abrams-Draine higher than pick 131, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Zakhari Franklin at pick 167 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Javon Baker at the Round 5 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Cam Hart in slot 174 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Zion Logue at the 177th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Michael Barrett in pick No. 204 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A conviction pick on Daequan Hardy at the 212th overall pick that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They reached a country mile for Donell Harris Jr. at Round 6, Pick 40, and the board is aghast. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
A reach for Marcus Harris in No. 220; a little patience would have been rewarded. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Aaron Frost. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
