The rest of the league will want that one back. Jake Majors tumbling to the Cowboys in the 168th pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The cost of the Campbell reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a centerpiece for the ground game at a price that makes it sweeter.
Taking Jalon Walker in pick No. 44 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tyleik Williams at slot 76 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.
Circle this one: Keon Sabb at No. 148 is a fall that decides a draft. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The board fumbled Jake Majors all the way to the Round 5 slot, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
You do not let a running back like Cam Skattebo reach the 170th pick and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Somehow Jay Higgins was still sitting there in pick 171, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
This one needs a full-page explanation: DJ Campbell in Round 6, Pick 12, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They jumped the gun on Davison Igbinosun, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 247 with a little surplus value in Aubrey Burks. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
