Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Tommy Mellott at slot 244 is 111 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
On value alone, Loveland makes the weekend a net positive. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 23 they get a cornerstone up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Nick Emmanwori in the Round 2 slot, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They robbed the room for Brashard Smith here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They barely believed it either: Evan Stewart still on the board at the 120th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Colston Loveland in Round 5, Pick 7 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Somehow Jihaad Campbell was still sitting there in No. 195, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A minor itch, scratched.
No drama and no debate, Benjamin Morrison went about where he belonged in the 196th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Miles Frazier at pick 199 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
You do not let a safety like Kevin Winston Jr. reach pick No. 236 and blink. They did not. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Tommy Mellott well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
