Green Bay Packers

Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Packers.

The Packers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending Round 4, Pick 35 on Drake Nugent a full 28 spots early.

The Packers indulged a want in Smith while a need in quarterback stayed open. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Nesbit pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.9 · Pick 9 · Joe Alt · OT · rank 4
In the 9th pick they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A real need, handled.
R2.11 · Pick 43 · Denzel Burke · CB · rank 42
No edge and no loss on Denzel Burke in the 43rd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Byron Murphy II · DL · rank 58
Byron Murphy II at pick 56 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
R3.9 · Pick 73 · Maason Smith · DT-EDGE · rank 80
A surprising call. With quarterback still to address, they spent Round 3, Pick 9 on Maason Smith, a DT-EDGE they were not short of.
R3.18 · Pick 82 · Brian Thomas Jr. · WR · rank 72
They read the board right and Brian Thomas Jr. was the payoff at slot 82. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 86
A straight-up fair deal on TreVeyon Henderson at pick No. 88, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Tate Ratledge · OG · rank 107
Tate Ratledge at pick 109 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.11 · Pick 111 · James Williams · S · rank 121
A conviction pick on James Williams at the 111th overall pick that the board grades a round light. A minor itch, scratched.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Drake Nugent · C · rank 163
This one needs a full-page explanation: Drake Nugent in Round 4, Pick 35, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.12 · Pick 187 · Cam Hart · CB · rank 179
Cam Hart at slot 187 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · Carson Steele · RB · rank 234
They liked Carson Steele enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 217. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Landon Jackson · DL-EDGE · rank 228
The board had cheaper options than Landon Jackson at No. 219, and it noticed. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.10 · Pick 230 · Bryson Nesbit · TE · rank 218
Bryson Nesbit slid further than he should have, and the Round 7 slot is lovely value for the tight end. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
