The Packers lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. About as rough as the board gets, and a F to prove it.
It is not that Bishop is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Every board in the league had Wilson lower, and that gap is the story. The Hicks value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
There is no soft landing here: they fought the board and left edge rusher open, and the grade is the bill.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a lockdown presence outside at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In the 31st overall pick they get a long-term starter on the line. A real need, handled.
They reached a country mile for Johnny Wilson at No. 50, and the board is aghast. It fills a real need, too.
A reach for Jackson Powers-Johnson in the 51st pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Braelon Allen at the Round 3 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
McKinnley Jackson at pick 93 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Cooper Beebe at pick No. 97 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A need, and now a little less of one.
They jumped the gun on James Williams, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A minor itch, scratched.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Cole Bishop in the 135th pick leaves edge rusher, quarterback and other spots for later.
Jaden Hicks in Round 5, Pick 23 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
A wild overpay on Carson Steele in No. 233, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
