Call it larceny. Bru McCoy sat on the board until the 246th pick, and the Packers did not need to be asked twice.
Spending an early pick on DT-EDGE with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Richardson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a ballhawk on the back end. Need was not the driver here.
They did well to land Troy Fautanu in the 41st overall pick, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Trey Benson at slot 57 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went DT-EDGE with Maason Smith while clear needs at edge rusher, quarterback and other spots sat open.
Junior Colson at No. 92 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Blake Fisher in pick 125, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Cam Hart at the 135th pick is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Circle this one: Theo Wease Jr. at pick No. 203 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Value with a capital V on Tatum Bethune in the Round 6 slot, a genuine coup. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Demani Richardson this early at pick No. 219. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Bru McCoy at pick 246 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
