The board owed the Patriots one, and it paid up: Jake Majors, the No. 94 name on the board, sitting there at the 217th pick like a gift left on the doorstep. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. If Grant pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 6 they get a ballhawk on the outside. Need was not the driver here.
A conviction pick on Matthew Golden at the Round 2 slot that the board grades a round light. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had Jalon Walker higher than No. 38, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. A minor itch, scratched.
Somehow Tyler Warren was still sitting there in Round 3, Pick 5, and they pounced on premier tight end value. A need, and now a little less of one.
A reach for Charles Grant in the 77th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Savion Williams at pick 104 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They will replay Sebastian Castro at pick No. 143 for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jake Majors at the 217th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They robbed the room for Elijah Arroyo here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It fills a real need, too.
They read the board right and Damien Martinez was the payoff at pick No. 238. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
