The Dolphins looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Keaton Bills at No. 198 regardless, 42 picks early.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The Dolphins clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get an anchor for the defensive front, though the board says they badly overpaid. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Kingsley Suamataia in slot 56 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
A slide stopped in the 87th overall pick, with Ja'Lynn Polk worth more than the price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A reach for Layden Robinson in No. 158; a little patience would have been rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Tanor Bortolini at pick No. 174 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tykee Smith at the Round 6 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Value said wait; Keaton Bills in pick 198 says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Sheridan Jones at No. 233. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
LaDarius Henderson at the 241st pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
