The Texans looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Jaden Shirden at pick 239 regardless, 56 picks early. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
Troy Franklin at pick 23 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They let Kamren Kinchens come to them and pounced at the 33rd pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They paid sticker price for T'Vondre Sweat in the 58th overall pick, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Fair-plus on Mike Sainristil, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They took Tommy Eichenberg at par in pick No. 123, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Cedric Gray at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
LaDarius Henderson in the 163rd overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. The roster fit checks out.
They reached into another round for Jaden Shirden, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Mark Perry slid further than he should have, and slot 247 is lovely value for the safety. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
