Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Chargers, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The Gore Jr. value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 5 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Value with a capital V on Kamari Lassiter in the 37th pick, a genuine coup. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 69, where Edgerrin Cooper graded well above the range. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Tykee Smith in the Round 4 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A slide stopped in Round 5, Pick 6, with Javon Foster worth more than the price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They read the board right and Frank Gore Jr. was the payoff at No. 183. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Dwight McGlothern at pick 226 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
