Call it larceny. Jermaine Burton sat on the board until pick No. 182, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
Marvin Harrison Jr. at the 4th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
In pick No. 27 they get a No. 1 receiver at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They did well to land Troy Fautanu in Round 2, Pick 2, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Circle this one: J.J. McCarthy at pick 68 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Kamari Lassiter in the Round 3 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Graham Barton in No. 104 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They will replay Tyler Nubin at slot 136 for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They robbed the room for Jermaine Burton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Taking Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in pick 229 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
