The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Chargers watched Jarrian Jones slide 34 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. This is how you run a draft, and the A- reflects it.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Every board in the league had Lee lower, and that gap is the story. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.15 · Pick 15 · Dallas Turner · LB-EDGE · rank 14
In the 15th overall pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Kris Jenkins · DL-EDGE · rank 47
They paid a round early for Kris Jenkins in pick No. 37, more than the board wanted. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R2.14 · Pick 46 · Ennis Rakestraw Jr. · CB · rank 38
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. is a better player than Round 2, Pick 14 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Keon Coleman · WR · rank 36
Taking Keon Coleman in slot 69 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.18 · Pick 82 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 76
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cooper Beebe in No. 82. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.23 · Pick 86 · Blake Corum · RB · rank 86
By-the-book stuff, Blake Corum at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.6 · Pick 106 · Caelen Carson · CB · rank 92
A quiet steal in the 106th pick: Caelen Carson for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 144
Tommy Eichenberg in pick 139 is fair value, right on his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R6.8 · Pick 183 · Jarrian Jones · CB · rank 149
Jarrian Jones at Round 6, Pick 8 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Logan Lee · DL · rank 241
They reached a country mile for Logan Lee at the 223rd overall pick, and the board is aghast. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.16 · Pick 236 · Michael Barrett · LB · rank 218
Michael Barrett in No. 236 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
R7.36 · Pick 256 · KT Leveston · OT · rank 238
The board fumbled KT Leveston all the way to pick No. 256, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
