If confidence were a draft strategy, the Cowboys would have aced it. Tanor Bortolini at Round 5, Pick 2 is 49 spots clear of where he belonged. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Landing Greenfield that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the offensive line, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 56 with a little surplus value in Junior Colson. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They took Trey Benson at par in Round 3, Pick 24, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A wild overpay on Sataoa Laumea in slot 90, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tanor Bortolini this early at No. 138. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reach on Jordan Jefferson in pick 174; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Steele Chambers in No. 216. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No edge and no loss on Dominique Hampton in pick No. 233; it is a wash and a sensible one. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They will replay Garret Greenfield at Round 7, Pick 24 for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
