Start where it matters. The Commanders took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
Getting Washington where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Foster reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Morgan at pick No. 36 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid sticker price for Xavier Legette in slot 40, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Austin Booker at the 67th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No drama and no debate, Max Melton went about where he belonged in pick 78. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Javon Foster in Round 3, Pick 37 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Tommy Eichenberg at No. 139, value and slot in agreement. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They went early on Jared Wiley in the 152nd pick, and the value did not follow. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Tahj Washington in No. 222 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
