The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
Robinson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. With edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on OLB-EDGE is the choice that costs them.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
Value with a capital V on Cooper DeJean in No. 34, a genuine coup. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Kiran Amegadjie at pick No. 68 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A curious use of slot 103. Edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots needed the pick; an OLB-EDGE in Javon Solomon did not.
A slide stopped in the Round 5 slot, with Ben Sinnott worth more than the price. A need, and now a little less of one.
By-the-book stuff, Jha'Quan Jackson at pick 180 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Dominique Hampton at par in the 231st pick, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 249th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
