Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Chargers spent slot 227 on Sam Hartman, a name most had 33 spots down the list. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
Chop Robinson in No. 6 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Kris Jenkins in the 38th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Sedrick Van Pran in pick No. 70 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
By-the-book stuff, Roman Wilson at Round 4, Pick 6 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reach for Ben Sinnott in slot 143; a little patience would have been rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Good price on Cody Schrader in the 184th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Sam Hartman this early at Round 7, Pick 7. The roster fit checks out.
