Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Dominic Zvada at Round 7, Pick 21 is 70 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. For now it grades a C, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Dunker pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots.
Hit on Caleb Lomu and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Caleb Lomu. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 53 on Gennings Dunker with quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 57 with a little surplus value in Jacob Rodriguez. It fills a real need, too.
No edge and no loss on Oscar Delp in slot 135; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Kaden Wetjen at the Round 6 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They went early on Robert Spears-Jennings in the 230th overall pick, and the value did not follow. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Dominic Zvada in the Round 7 slot, miles early. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
