The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Commanders reached some 67 spots for Kaden Prather, and value like that does not grow back.
Baron at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 22 they get a long-term starter on the line, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
Denzel Burke at the Round 2 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They barely believed it either: Jordan James still on the board at the 77th overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They robbed the room for Tyler Baron here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
They will replay Donovan Jackson at slot 199 for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jared Wilson reach pick No. 235 and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Somehow Kyle Monangai was still sitting there in pick No. 236, and they pounced on premier running back value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Kaden Prather at Round 7, Pick 31 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
