The Commanders spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jay Higgins, the No. 122 name on the board, in pick 246.
For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 26 they get a matchup problem out wide at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They robbed the room for Jalon Walker here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They barely believed it either: Nick Emmanwori still on the board at slot 79. A minor itch, scratched.
A tight end of that caliber at the 146th pick is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Cam Skattebo in pick 202 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They read the board right and Jaylen Reed was the payoff at the Round 7 slot. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Steal is underselling it; Jay Higgins at pick No. 246 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
