The Cowboys did not so much draft KJ Jefferson as overpay for him, 47 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They banked enough surplus on Anderson to cover a lot of smaller sins.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 30th pick they get a featured back. A real need, handled.
Tez Johnson in the 62nd overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R.J. Oben at No. 94 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
By-the-book stuff, Bear Alexander at slot 126 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
KJ Jefferson in pick 158 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
They took Khordae Sydnor at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
A quiet steal in slot 222: Nic Anderson for less than the market said. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
