The tape said wait; the Dolphins did not. Trajan Jeffcoat went at pick No. 241, a good 67 picks before the board was ready. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
The Jacobs pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 21 they get a cornerstone up front, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Ricky Pearsall at the 62nd pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Zak Zinter at the Round 3 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
No drama and no debate, Sione Vaki went about where he belonged in the 158th overall pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tanor Bortolini. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Julian Pearl at No. 198 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A linebacker of that caliber at pick No. 228 is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Value said wait; Trajan Jeffcoat in the 241st overall pick says they were not listening. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
