Green Bay Packers

The Packers went off-script early, and it cost them a F.

The Packers torched the value chart for Javon Foster, taking him 31 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. A weekend to file away and forget, and an F to match.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The Bishop pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback, tight end and other spots.

A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Kinchens falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

In short, a weekend the front office will want to forget in a hurry.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 27
In pick No. 25 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 25
Kamren Kinchens at No. 41 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Zach Frazier · C · rank 65
They liked Zach Frazier enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 2 slot. It fills a real need, too.
R2.31 · Pick 63 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 75
They jumped the gun on Johnny Wilson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 104
Khyree Jackson at the 88th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.29 · Pick 92 · Zak Zinter · OG · rank 94
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zak Zinter. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.31 · Pick 94 · Marshawn Kneeland · DE-EDGE · rank 106
They paid up for Marshawn Kneeland at the 94th pick when waiting would have done the job. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Javon Foster · OT · rank 126
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Javon Foster. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.35 · Pick 98 · Kris Abrams-Draine · CB · rank 118
Kris Abrams-Draine at the 98th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Will Shipley · RB · rank 129
Will Shipley in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.32 · Pick 132 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 127
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Cole Bishop adds a safety and leaves quarterback, tight end and other spots untouched.
R4.34 · Pick 134 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 151
A conviction pick on Braelon Allen at No. 134 that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 125
They read the board right and Tommy Eichenberg was the payoff at pick No. 135. A minor itch, scratched.
