The Packers bled value on every deal, hence the D-.

The Packers went off the board in a big way for Javon Foster, 35 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.

The Packers indulged a want in Williams while a need in quarterback stayed open.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.27 · Pick 27 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 25
In pick 27 they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 37
They did well to land Kamren Kinchens in the 41st overall pick, just ahead of his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R2.31 · Pick 63 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 75
The board had cheaper options than Johnny Wilson at slot 63, and it noticed. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R2.32 · Pick 64 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 78
Cooper Beebe at the 64th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.27 · Pick 90 · Tyler Davis · DT · rank 95
By-the-book stuff, Tyler Davis at Round 3, Pick 27 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Javon Foster · OT · rank 126
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Javon Foster well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R3.31 · Pick 94 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 105
They went early on Khyree Jackson in slot 94, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Marshawn Kneeland · DE-EDGE · rank 106
A conviction pick on Marshawn Kneeland at pick No. 95 that the board grades a round light. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.35 · Pick 98 · Kris Abrams-Draine · CB · rank 118
They reached into another round for Kris Abrams-Draine, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · James Williams · S · rank 130
A want over a need in pick 125: James Williams adds a safety while quarterback keeps waiting.
R4.32 · Pick 132 · Will Shipley · RB · rank 129
Will Shipley at Round 4, Pick 32 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.34 · Pick 134 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 151
A reach for Braelon Allen in No. 134; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 138
No drama and no debate, Ben Sinnott went about where he belonged in the Round 4 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
