Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Marcus Harris got past him. The Patriots do not have to explain a thing at the 193rd overall pick.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The D.J. Humphries deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Marvin Harrison Jr. and all.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.3 · Pick 3 · Marvin Harrison Jr. · WR · rank 1
In pick 3 they get a true top target. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Michael Penix Jr. · QB · rank 9
They will replay Michael Penix Jr. at Round 2, Pick 2 for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Kiran Amegadjie · OT · rank 66
Kiran Amegadjie in the 68th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Malik Washington · WR · rank 93
Malik Washington at pick No. 103 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.1 · Pick 137 · Sataoa Laumea · OT · rank 131
A reasonable price with a little left over, Sataoa Laumea in slot 137. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R6.18 · Pick 193 · Marcus Harris · DE-EDGE · rank 153
Marcus Harris at the 193rd pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
