Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Malik Nabers got past him. The Patriots do not have to explain a thing at the Round 3 slot. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 3 they get a go-to option on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
The board fumbled Joe Alt all the way to the 34th pick, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Malik Nabers in the 68th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Taking Blake Corum in the Round 4 slot is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Roman Wilson at pick No. 136 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Justin Rogers in slot 182 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A linebacker of that caliber at pick 229 is the definition of value, full stop. It adds depth where they could use a little.
