The rest of the league will want that one back. Damien Martinez tumbling to the Patriots in pick 219 is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. The back end got a real overhaul.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 4 they get a press-man option on the boundary. More want than need.
A tight end of that caliber at pick 38 is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
Marcus Mbow at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Taking Isaiah Bond in the 77th pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Donovan Jackson in Round 4, Pick 4 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Smael Mondon Jr. in slot 145 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They robbed the room for Damien Martinez here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Steal is underselling it; Jaylen Reed at the 222nd overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They will replay Jason Marshall Jr. at the 240th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
