The trade table was a mismatch, and the Chargers were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. Every board in the league had Barrett lower, and that gap is the story. The Trice pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Bralen Trice and all.
Pick-by-Pick
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Bralen Trice in the 32nd overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 37 with a little surplus value in Troy Fautanu. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They took Caelen Carson at par in slot 69, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Brenden Rice is a better player than the 92nd pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
TreVeyon Henderson in Round 3, Pick 32 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Cooper Beebe in No. 105 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
They paid a round early for Darius Robinson in pick No. 142, more than the board wanted. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Michael Barrett at the Round 5 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They did well to land Josh Proctor in the 183rd pick, just ahead of his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
