The Shamar Easter selection is the head-turner. The Dolphins reached 56 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Stukes. It is not that Moore is a bad player; it is that the Dolphins had louder needs to answer first. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
Emmanuel Pregnon in Round 2, Pick 11 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It fills a real need, too.
A straight-up fair deal on Gabe Jacas at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Caleb Banks is a better player than the 57th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Keionte Scott at No. 75 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Circle this one: Jake Slaughter at the 87th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Ted Hurst at pick No. 90 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A want over a need in the 96th overall pick: Devin Moore adds a cornerback while quarterback and linebacker keeps waiting.
A tidy bit of business in slot 112, where Ja'Kobi Lane graded well above the range. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the Round 4 slot on Treydan Stukes with quarterback and linebacker unsolved.
No drama and no debate, Zxavian Harris went about where he belonged in No. 151. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Demond Claiborne at par in pick No. 163, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Domani Jackson at the 187th pick. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Jeff Caldwell in Round 6, Pick 7 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A real head-scratcher, Isaiah Jatta in pick 223 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They talked themselves into Bryce Foster at the 227th overall pick, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Brett Norfleet at pick 238 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
Shamar Easter at pick No. 241 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
