Nobody had KJ Jefferson this high, and it is not close. The Cowboys reached 91 spots to get him at No. 209. A D+ that will need time and luck to look better.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. On value alone, Skattebo makes the weekend a net positive.
For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, cornerback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 6 they get a go-to option on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
The board had cheaper options than Cameron Williams at the Round 1 slot, and it noticed. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board fumbled Nick Emmanwori all the way to the 37th pick, and they scooped it up. A minor itch, scratched.
Tyler Booker in the 44th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They reached into another round for Kyle McCord, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Alfred Collins at pick No. 68 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A straight-up fair deal on Omarr Norman-Lott at pick No. 73, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Tez Johnson at pick 76 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Circle this one: TreVeyon Henderson at slot 106 is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Somehow Demetrius Knight Jr. was still sitting there in Round 4, Pick 8, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid sticker price for Savion Williams in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A real head-scratcher, DJ Campbell in the 148th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
You do not let a running back like Cam Skattebo reach the 168th overall pick and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They barely believed it either: Sonny Styles still on the board at No. 170. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
A linebacker of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Steal is underselling it; Raheim Sanders at pick No. 186 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
KJ Jefferson at Round 6, Pick 34 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Tim Smith at the 248th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The roster fit checks out.
