Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Chargers spent Round 5, Pick 6 on Cody Schrader, a name the board had a full 96 spots lower.

The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.5 · Pick 5 · Brock Bowers · TE · rank 6
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get a matchup weapon at tight end at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 37
They paid sticker price for Chop Robinson in pick No. 37, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 63
Jackson Powers-Johnson at the 69th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.5 · Pick 105 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 112
A straight-up fair deal on Cooper Beebe at the 105th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.6 · Pick 142 · Cody Schrader · RB · rank 238
Cody Schrader in pick 142 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R6.9 · Pick 184 · Sam Hartman · QB · rank 180
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 6 slot with a little surplus value in Sam Hartman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.7 · Pick 227 · Carson Steele · RB · rank 254
Carson Steele at slot 227 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
