The Chargers did not so much draft Cody Schrader as overpay for him, 55 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
Joe Alt at pick No. 5 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Chop Robinson in Round 2, Pick 5 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They went early on Blake Corum in No. 69, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
A straight-up fair deal on Braelon Allen at the 107th pick, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Darius Robinson at the Round 5 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Value said wait; Cody Schrader in slot 183 says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Omar Speights at slot 185 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
