The Chargers did not so much draft Dorian Singer as overpay for him, 34 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Muhammad III. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Brock Bowers went about where he belonged in the 5th pick. The roster fit checks out.
A straight-up fair deal on Chop Robinson at pick No. 37, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Sedrick Van Pran in slot 69 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No edge and no loss on Donovan Edwards in No. 105; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
They went early on Ben Sinnott in pick 142, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
Circle this one: Moose Muhammad III at Round 6, Pick 8 is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dorian Singer. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
