There is a lot to like until you notice edge rusher is still a hole. The Chargers never got to the one that mattered most. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They banked enough surplus on Wilson to cover a lot of smaller sins. The Benson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 9 they get a disruptive interior force. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Leonard Taylor III in pick No. 37; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reach on Trey Benson in the Round 3 slot; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy bit of business in the 105th pick, where Roman Wilson graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Cooper Beebe at slot 110 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Theo Johnson in the 142nd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Sam Hartman at pick 183 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid a round early for Cody Schrader in Round 7, Pick 6, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
