The Chargers did not so much draft Donovan Edwards as overpay for him, 34 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Landing Wilson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 5 they get a blindside protector at fair value.
T'Vondre Sweat at No. 37 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A real head-scratcher, Donovan Edwards in pick No. 69 is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A tidy bit of business in the 105th overall pick, where Roman Wilson graded well above the range. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They jumped the gun on Ben Sinnott, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Sam Hartman in the Round 6 slot. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board had cheaper options than Cody Schrader at the Round 7 slot, and it noticed. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
