The real work happened on the phones. The Chargers fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Sweat has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Darius Slayton gives the group a proven body among the projects.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a seam-stretching tight end at fair value. A real need, handled.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, T'Vondre Sweat well ahead of where he belonged. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reach for Jackson Powers-Johnson in the 47th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
