There is conviction, and then there is this. The Dolphins took Layden Robinson a full 56 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. No fireworks, but a solid B.
The Jones pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
The board fumbled Xavier Legette all the way to the 62nd overall pick, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Good price on Calen Bullock in No. 87, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Dominick Puni at pick 90 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They talked themselves into Trevor Keegan at the 113th pick, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A big swing on Layden Robinson at pick No. 120, well ahead of any board in the building. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Steal is underselling it; Elijah Jones at the 158th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
