The Dolphins spent real capital to be 22 picks early on Solomon Byrd, and the board is going to hold them to it.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Nothing gained and nothing lost at the table.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 21 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A clean, defensible pick in No. 65 with a little surplus value in Ricky Pearsall. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zak Zinter. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Javion Cohen in the 158th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They liked Delmar Glaze enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 184. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A conviction pick on Evan Williams at the 198th pick that the board grades a round light. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They talked themselves into Solomon Byrd at slot 240, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Josh Proctor in pick 241 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
