There is a lot to like until you notice edge rusher is still a hole. The Chargers never got to the one that mattered most.
The cost of the Sweat reach is exactly the players who went right after him. However the rest shakes out, Wilson at that price is a win they earned. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 5 they get a red-zone target to build around at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
T'Vondre Sweat in the Round 2 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A conviction pick on Blake Corum at Round 3, Pick 5 that the board grades a round light. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Roman Wilson at the 105th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Mike Sainristil in slot 142. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nothing to complain about; Sam Hartman went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A premium they did not need to pay, Cody Schrader a notch or two before his time. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
