The Chargers clearly saw something nobody else did in Cody Schrader, taking him 34 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.16 · Pick 16 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 14
In pick 16 they get a disruptor off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 29
Johnny Wilson slipping to Round 2, Pick 6 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R2.28 · Pick 60 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 55
Cooper Beebe at the 60th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 80
Jackson Powers-Johnson at slot 70 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R3.16 · Pick 80 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 84
No drama and no debate, TreVeyon Henderson went about where he belonged in pick No. 80. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.29 · Pick 92 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 99
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Braelon Allen. It fills a real need, too.
R4.6 · Pick 106 · Max Melton · CB · rank 118
They paid a round early for Max Melton in pick No. 106, more than the board wanted. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.7 · Pick 143 · Cody Schrader · RB · rank 177
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Cody Schrader. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.9 · Pick 184 · Ricky Pearsall · WR · rank 200
They jumped the gun on Ricky Pearsall, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.20 · Pick 195 · Curtis Jacobs · LB · rank 204
A reach on Curtis Jacobs in No. 195; the board had better options right there. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R7.7 · Pick 227 · Sam Hartman · QB · rank 260
They reached a country mile for Sam Hartman at the 227th pick, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
