The rest of the league will want that one back. Anthony Gould tumbling to the Dolphins in No. 212 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. The bottom line is a respectable B+.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The cost of the Rogers reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 30 they get a building block for the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Cooper Beebe in the 84th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Austin Booker at pick 93. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A conviction pick on Mekhi Wingo at the 98th overall pick that the board grades a round light. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on James Williams in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Tykee Smith at Round 5, Pick 16 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
A tidy little value on Jarrian Jones in slot 153, a step better than break-even. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Thomas at No. 154, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kitan Oladapo at slot 161 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Luke McCaffrey in Round 5, Pick 34 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Justin Rogers in pick 183, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
You do not let a linebacker like Ty'Ron Hopper reach the 195th pick and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
By-the-book stuff, Nathan Thomas at the Round 6 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Anthony Gould in pick No. 212 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid a round early for De'Corian Clark in the 256th overall pick, more than the board wanted. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Sheridan Jones at the Round 7 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
